Vintage & Legion take the Face-Off Challenge Cup

Last night’s 16bit TF Face-Off Challenge Cup saw Vintage taking the win at the Pro bracket finals vs Masters and at the Novice bracket Legion cruised to victory vs CyB.

Round 1 Pro bracket

  • Masters vs Naked     5-0  / 5-0
  • Vintage vs Fags         5-0 / 5-0

Round 1 Novice bracket

  • CyB vs pcZ                        5-0 / 5-0
  • Legion vs PRIME         5-0 / 6-1

Basically most of teams at both brackets comfortably went through to the  finals as they beat their opponents 5-0 on each map though PRIME managed to get a round vs Legion to make it 6-1 at one map. It has be said that cup style of tournaments where there are not enough teams the skill gaps can be quite frustrating when at your first round you have to face a stronger seeded team and getting knocked out without match gameplay is really disappointing.

However teams have to stand up and keep sticking together as soon as more teams get in the tournaments more groups can be accommodated for each skill level and therefore  more enjoyable tournaments for all the teams with more competitiveness between them. Balancing out a ranking tournament at it’s beginning can be very tricky, but things will get better as it progresses, teams will experience more balanced match-ups should they stick around for the follow up tournaments.

Pro Bracket Resutl

The Pro bracket finals were really exciting and it had to go for 3 maps to get a the winner. Masters won the melee battle and chose badlands as first map and gullywash as decider, Vintage picked granary as second map.

The first map badlands was Masters favorite map and they showed some solid gameplay on it and they gave no chance for Vintage to pick some pace at mid battles even though there was some good come backs by Vintage the guys at Masters sealed the map at 7-2.

Granary the second map to be played was incredibly tight, with some great back and forth battles, alternating round wins with Vintage taking an early lead of 2-0 but the game got some extra heat with 5 minutes to go and Vintage winning 4-3 Masters managed to get a round in time to reach the golden cap. More intensity was on the cards as no team wanted to make mistakes at the golden cap but it was Vintage’s great compact gameplay that pushed Masters to their last point for almost 10 minutes and managed get the round with an all-in push after getting a pick to make it 5-4.

With both teams winning a map the decider map gullywash was going to be really exciting and there was not going to be room for mistakes. The game started with some high intensity and both teams had a couple of round exchanges but when Vintage took the edge with a 4-2 it seemed like Masters ran short of ideas and there was no response from them to cut off Vintage’s momentum that managed to wrap the map with a 5-2 and take the Face-Off Challenge Pro Bracket victory.

Novice Bracket Result

The finals at the Novice bracket had some controversy as Legion had a couple of power subs enemy and kaboos. However they were within the rules of 2 subs allowed and there is no rule against the skill level of the subs for a team. But well the match took place with granary been the first map where Legion managed to take the win 4-2 with a shaky start but at the second map freight they cruised to a 5-0 to beat CyB and win the Novice brackets of the Face-Off Challenge.

NB: Administration has been made aware of the circumstances and rules will be amended to protect lower bracket teams against this in the future.

Congratulations to the winners, the rest of the teams participating, IS Gaming for supporting us with the servers.IS Gaming has been a phenomenal support and driving force in the 16Bit TF Comps which would not have been as successful or possible without them. Also a special thanks to the guys at VanillaTV for casting our grand final, great suff!

k will have a talk with Sakred abt this. The opponents have to agree to the subs being used, so they also couldve said no.

Didn’t know about being able to complain about subs being used. >.<

Our 2nd map (cp_freight) was 3@, 3 LgN with enemy, wir, and JediJello.

Ok Guys, this is really important.

After reviewing the finals of the Novice Bracket (CyB vs LgN) and securing a screenshot, a decision has been made about this match.

It has been found that LgN used 3 subs which is not within the 2 sub rule and therefore LgN and CyB will be posed with the following decisions.

Option 1: CyB agrees to replay the finals against LgN where-in LgN uses no more than 2 subs that are NOT from a tier 1 team. (It is preferable that LgN plays their original line-up that they registered with.)

Option 2: CyB refuses a rematch and LgN forfeits the finals or LgN refuses a rematch and forfeits the finals.

Should these teams select to play a rematch the match will have to be played before Monday the 17th of October, and both teams are obligated to report results on the initial match thread supplied by TF2.co.za.

You are to secure your own server for the match.

NB Notice: It is YOUR responsibility as a team to refuse to play matches where your opponents are breaking rules, if you carry on playing the game further actions will not be taken in future.

If you have a query, complaint or dispute it is YOUR responsibility to email it to 16bittf@gmail.com or the dispute WILL NOT be taken into consideration.

For a all SA team we might be div3, some players in SA can easily play div1/premier.

Either good game. Good cast.

Good finals, thanks to everyone for making this possible.

Have to agree, we need to be more active and get more top teams playing.
I know in vinTage most of the players havn’t really been playing for a week or 2,
then you play a clannie and you hesitate and make more mistakes, if we were
more active, then teamplay would be much better. The skill is there, just need the commitment.

Loved the casting! 🙂
