TF2CSA Draft League v3 UPDATED!

Registrations Closed

The TF2CSA Team has decided to take on the series of “Draft Leagues” that were created by Skillbill and launch the 3rd edition of this league to keep momentum on the TF2 competitive community.  For those of you who are unfamiliar how a draft league works, it basically consists out of a set number of captains who take turns to choose from a pool of players to create a team to compete in the league. Each team will consist of 8 players, who will be picked on IRC by the captains at a set time after registrations close.

This can be good opportunity for players from the Low Tier teams and those that are clanless to show their skills as they will be playing the same team with some of the TF2 best players so this will be a golden opportunity for some as long as you get picked. Remember that Draft Teams are basically mixed teams and there will be some limitations like example no more than 3 players from the same clan on a draft team but we will get you more details once the final rule set it’s done.

This time we would like to see a better use of the 8 players that get picked on draft teams as on previous Draft Leagues some teams did not rotate their 8 players and some did not get to play which is not good as we are trying to help the less experienced players to get some chance to show what are they capable to do.

We will be looking to get at least 4 teams of 8 players each but if registrations exceed 32 players we can create more teams accordingly.

Well at the moment we are already on 42 so I’ll lock signups on 48 guys to keep 6 teams as this Draft League v3 should be finished before the end of August because on September the TF2CSA Cup v2 “Custom Maps” challenge will be taking place

Note: The schedules have been brought forward as seems like the community is very amped to get this draft league going so check carefully the new dates below:

Registrations Open: 27th July

Rules

The rules for the league will be very simple starting with a single group stage, each team will play against every other team once on 2 maps. We will only use 2 maps for the group stage cp_badlands and cp_freightfinal1. Each map counts as a “match”, and the winning team will be awarded 2 points for a win (per map), the losing team will not receive any. Round difference will be taken into consideration at the end of the group stage should 2 or more teams be tied – to determine which teams will advance through to the final.

The final will be played by the two teams who placed first and second after the group stage is complete. The final will consist of three maps – cp_badlands, cp_freightfinal1, and cp_gravelpit ) Gravelpit will be played BO3, ABBA style) will be played as the decider if required.

The tournament will follow TF2CSA 6v6 Rules, (5 Winlimit / 30 timelimit ) so the first team to reach 5 points difference on a pushmap wins the match. If no team has reached 5 points difference after 30 minutes of play, the team in the lead will be declared the winner, or the match will go to golden cap if the teams are tied.  The draft will commence on Monday 2nd August at 20:30 on IRC, where each captain will take turns to choose their squad.

Note: **No subs allowed because a 8 players squad should be enough to cover any lineup problems and all the players that signup should be available and commit** **No more than 3 players from the same clan on the team including captain** I will be considering to ban players to take part on TF2CSA tournaments that disappear through a competition for unknown reasons so be responsible guys.

The tournament schedule will be the following:

Sunday: 8th of August (Time to be arranged by captains)

Mid-Week:  To be decided by captains

Sunday: 15th of August (Time to be arranged by captains)

Mid-Week:  To be decided by captains

Sunday: 22th of August (Time to be arranged by captains)

Final Sunday: 29th of August 8:00 PM

CAPTAINS

The pre-selected captains ( 4 of 6 ) at the moment are:

Xt3rminator

Xolox

Wikus

Joint

Razerfox

**Vomitshovel pending if needed**

**GrimAndy pending if needed**

**Headshot pending if needed**

Remember captains that this league is more about helping new talent rather than looking for a big win so just to have fun and try an organize your team in-game is good enough, I’ve added myself as captain if needed. Hopefully the 6 spots left gets covered soon then on Sunday night I’ll organize a proper list with the players registered.

As it Happened TF2CSA 6v6 v2 Semi Finals

Well the first of the semi finals between Equilibrium sv SLEEP stared off quite close on the beggining of both maps but SLEEP managed to hold control on the crucial moments and cut off any sort of momentum from the Equilibrium team to knock them out winning 4-1 on granary and 5-2 on badlands.

On the other match we saw an Operator showing once againn that they are on a class on their own by crusing to the finals after beating Enigma 6-1 on badlands and 5-0 on freight. Really well organized gameplay by Operator gave no chance to Enigma to try and turn things around.

Semi Finalists Teams Points of View

I just wanted to get some feedback from the captain’s of the semi finalists teams to give us their opinion on their team expectations for the semi finals, how the tournament has been so far and what do you think of the TF2 SA competitive scene for the future.

Equilibrium’s Xterminator:

X on Eq making the Semi-Finals

I think that it is awesome that Eq have made the Top 4, second spot for the Semi-Finals is a great achievement. Eq are the only clan to have played all 6 of their clan games with no forfeits from their opponents and I think that lots of clans should learn from us. During Match days we played our games on time and when a team could not make the time, we arranged suitable times for both. We are also one of the two clan that needed to play 1 game from the last three days and I am proud of all our players that made this happen. It’s going to be a very interesting Semi-Final with some great fights. The winner will be the team that can think faster on the day as the Skill Levels of the individuals are very similar. The entire Eq team are looking forward to playing on Sunday and I hope Sleep are too.

X on TF2CSA 6v6 v2

The Comp as a whole has gone relatively well. Older players in TF2 have always said that there were never enough teams or there were no prizes to be won and RazerFox who leads up the TF2CSA team has gone out of his way with the minimal amount of time (due to his Chicken cutting Working hours) to organise very nice Prizes for the Top 3. The reason that teams tried to play all their games in the last week is because the Captains of the respective teams are just not responsible and if they want to lead Clans and want to Win, then they need to step it up. TF2 can only get better if specific Individuals take up the challenge, motivate their players and show others what TF2 is all about. TF2 has lots of dedicated individuals, most don’t have what it takes to lead a team, some are not as skilled as others, but all of these players deserve to play and teams that cannot field 6 players for clan matches should really think about these guys, because these dedicated players are the ones who want to make the game work but are never given the opportunity.

Operator’s Enemy:

The competition thus far has been fairly fun, and well organized, with good alterations made to the deadlines when problems arise. The two map system works well, and ensures for a longer and funner league night. My team’s focus has really gone up recently, especially since the semi finals are almost upon us. With a good plan and director like Razerfox, we can look forward to seeing many more successful leagues in the near future. I just hope that everyone can participate this time seeing as there are still quite a few players and clans that didn’t play last time. Perhaps this time we could have two divisions, thus allowing the newer teams to have a bit of a fair ground.

With the amount of players in tf2, and the amount of effort, it certainly shouldn’t be looked at as a dead game, this time round we had 12 team sign ups, with all of those teams remaining until the semi finals (correct me if I’m wrong Razerfox). MGO’s should certainly look at TF2 and consider putting some effort into it. Additionally, I think that with the growth the TF2 competitive atmosphere is experiencing, you can almost guarantee that Operator will be participating in the upcoming leagues.
